Tissue Everywhere

I remember when I was pregnant with Elijah I kept thinking how we should begin to baby-proof the house and get things ready for when he would be crawling or walking. I guess it was that "nesting" urge that had me wanting to do things ahead of time instead of waiting until the last minute. Needless to say, the house never got baby-proofed until he was 8 months old and was crawling around. Then we had to re-proof the house again when he started walking at 10 months, realizing that now more things were accessible to him. With this process in mind, let the following story unfold.

The other day when I was at work, Jerod was watching Elijah and noticed he had been quiet for awhile and went to find out what he was up to. When he peered around the corner he discovered that Elijah had pulled down one of our Kleenex boxes from off the end table and had proceeded to pull out ever last tissue. When Jerod found him he just kept smiling and laughing like it was no big deal and he was having the time of his life.

As you can imagine, we are now rethinking everything we have on table-tops because once more his reach has now lengthened and more things are within his grasp. People with older children just smile, nod, and say, "Just wait until he is a 'tool user' and starts using other things to stand on or help lengthen his reach." Pretty soon, nothing will be safe from this little guy. I guess for now, we just take things one day at a time and let life unfold with it's little surprises like tissue strewn all over the house.
