A Day in the Life of Elijah

For some reason we took a lot of pictures on October 15th so I thought I'd post a few of them here to give you an idea of what a typical day for Elijah might be like.

He loves playing guitar with his dad and it has become a great distraction tool for whenever I have to leave for work. Elijah definitely fusses whenever I'm having to leave (even if it's just closing the door to the bathroom, or if I walked out of a room and he didn't see which direction I went). Fortunately, he's usually easily distracted and the tears don't last for very long. Here are a sequence of picture Jerod took of Elijah and the guitar.
Elijah also loves putting things on his head and taking them off. It can be anything from a box, to the laundry basket, to food. I recently borrowed a cowboy hat from a friend because I'm going to dress up as a cowgirl for Halloween and have Elijah as a little cowboy. The borrowed hat has been sitting around in our living room for many days now and it has become a fun game. He first puts the hat on his head, then holds it out for me to put on, then puts it back on his head. Often it slips over his head and then we play peek-a-boo for awhile. I thought he looked so adorable in this over sized cowboy hat that I had to include it here.
Reading has also become a fun time for us. He pulls out books all the time to look at the pictures, play the music (a few of them have special sound and songs attached), or to simply step on the books (not sure why he takes such pleasure in this last one, but he really does). Jerod caught us on camera reading one of Elijah's favorite books that is a signing book for babies.

He enjoys reading so much he has also started reading my mail.

It has been interesting for me to see Elijah's personality come through as he has gotten older. It never ceases to amaze me how much emotion can quickly pass through a child's face. They literally don't know how to hold back any of their feelings and it all just comes spilling out, affecting their whole body. Many times Elijah just throws himself to the floor when he is told he can't play with something or be in a place that could potentially be dangerous for him. Sometimes it's hard for me not to smile because he gets the cutest little frown on his face when he's upset or angry. The next sequence of pictures was all taken within a two-minute time frame.
