Angel Gabriel

Today was the annual Christmas musical at Elijah's preschool. They have done the same musical every year for 25 years. It's fun because we can sing along too and know what to expect. This year Elijah's teacher had asked if he wanted to be the Angel Gabriel. Even though we tried to explain to him what the part was about, he wasn't too sure about it and just wanted to be a shepherd like h had been last year. So they cast his good friend Nathan as Gabriel and continued on with practices. Then, Nathan got sick the week before the musical so Elijah was the "back-up" Angel Gabriel. The more he stood in for Nathan during practices, the more he really wanted to be the actual Angel Gabriel. Yesterday his teacher said Nathan was still sick and she needed Elijah to be ready just in case. She sent us home with a white robe but said we were responsible for making wings and a halo. Elijah had fun putting them together and started getting very excited about doing the part. We tried to get his heart ready just in case Nathan got better and Elijah had to go back to being a shepherd, but his little mind was determined to be the angel. Fifteen minutes before the performance, Nathan hadn't shown up and his teacher said Elijah could be the angel. After we got him in his costume, Nathan walked in. My heart sank because I thought he might have to switch to being the shepherd, but his teacher didn't miss a beat and had Nathan put on Elijah's shepherd costume. Nathan was so amazing and didn't mind the switch. Elijah beamed as the Angel Gabriel and really enjoyed his part. I wasn't sitting too close so my pictures aren't that good, but they do capture the moment, so here they are...

 Getting ready for the show
 Waiting patiently for his turn
Angel Gabriel appears before Mary..."Greetings. Do not be afraid."
Angel Gabriel tells Joseph it's okay to take Mary as his wife
Angel Gabriel appears before the shepherds to tell them the good news (they were all bowing down because they were afraid ;-)
Finally we get to see Gabriel's face because he's singing instead of giving someone a message ;-)
"Angels We Have Heard on High."

This is my favorite picture of my sweet little boy!
I love this smile (Daddy was helping to make him laugh)
What a wonderful musical. Such great memories for our family. We are so proud of you Elijah!
